Michael Wachtler: Explorer, and mediator of the Dolomites World

Michael Wachtler, born in 1959 in San Candido (South Tyrol), is a versatile scientist, author, and filmmaker. His work focuses on the exploration of the Dolomites, where he discovered significant fossil plants and animals, including Megachirella wachtleri, an early ancestor of snakes and lizards.

As the founder of the Dolomythos Museum in San Candido, he conveys geological and paleontological findings to a broad audience. He contributes to science communication with over 70 publications and numerous films. His critical stance toward environmental destruction and his unconventional research methods have led to controversies, including legal disputes and a temporary ban on research.
